Teaching Kids Oral Hygiene and Discipline

Oral hygiene is a crucial life skill, and instilling good dental habits in children from a young age sets the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles. Teaching kids oral hygiene involves a combination of education, consistency, and discipline. Lead by example and show them the importance of daily oral care by brushing and flossing together as a family.

Make it fun by turning oral hygiene routines into enjoyable activities, such as using colorful toothbrushes, flavored toothpaste, or playing a favorite song during brushing time. Our early childhood in New York further supports the learning by teaching them about tooth decay, cavities, and gum disease in simple terms, using visual aids like books or videos to illustrate these concepts.

Establish a consistent oral care routine with scheduled times for brushing and flossing, preferably after meals. Just like building other habits, a routine builds discipline and reinforces the importance of regular oral care.

In our educational program in New York, we go beyond teaching kids these habits. Sharon Baptist Head Start sets a positive example in every way. Thus, each year, we are able to enroll 384 children on three different campuses.
