Temperament is a child’s behavioral style. It is the way they react to the things around them may it be situations, events, or people. Given that every child is born with distinct personalities, it is good to know your child’s temperament in order to understand why they do the things they do. It may even help you solve any behavioral challenges as well.

Our Head Start Pre-k has listed down the four most common types of child temperament below:

  • SanguineConsidered as the most common, this temperament style is sociable, talkative, playful, and outgoing. Sanguines are also active in their lifestyle and find it easy to build connections.
  • CholericThis temperament style is determined, passionate, success-driven, and logical. They are also known to be direct in communication and have a strong mindset to move forward and achieve their goals.
  • MelancholicChildren who have this temperament style are known to be detailed, respectful, and orderly. Moreover, melancholics are known to be rule followers who are not as fond of risks as other personality types do.
  • PhlegmaticThis temperament style is attentive, calm, and easy-going. Phlegmatics are known to be helpful to those around them. On the other hand, they are passive in nature which can lead to indecisiveness.

With these in mind, knowing your young one’s temperament style can narrow down their every need in order for them to thrive. As a preschool in New York, Sharon Baptist Head Start is here to help you out.
